Ukraine

“And you thought that Ukraine is so simple. Ukraine is great. Ukraine is exclusive. All the rinks of history have passed through it. It has worked out all kinds of tests. It is hardened by the highest hardening. In today’s world, it has no price”.

Lina Kostenko ( The legendary Ukrainian lyric female poet)

Through my collection of artwork focusing on Ukraine, I confront the collective grief of a nation torn apart by conflict. As someone who left Ukraine two decades ago to build a life in the UK, the resurgence of internal roots in the face of war has reignited a profound sense of connection and empathy. Each piece in this collection explores the meaning of distance, illustrating the emotional tug-of-war between two lands separated by waters but bound by shared history and pain. I channel the anguish of those experiencing loss and upheaval thousands of miles away, feeling their tears as if they were my own. These artworks serve as a bridge between past and present, capturing the essence of a culture threatened with erasure and the resilience of a people determined to preserve their identity amidst adversity.
